Obuasi (Ash), Dec. 19, GNA – Mr. William Kofi Adzowu, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi East, has provided an update on the relocation of timber merchants and traders from the Boete Timber Market to the newly developed Boete Industrial Enclave.
Addressing the media on the rationale behind the relocation, the MCE explained that the industrial enclave formed part of the assembly’s development agenda to create a well-organised, safe, and modern industrial hub for wood sellers, machine operators, carpenters and related trade associations.
He noted that the enclave had been deliberately prepared to receive traders relocating from the Boete Timber Market.
According to the MCE, significant preparatory work had already been completed at the site.
These include the mechanical clearing and levelling of the land, demarcation and allocation of plots to the various associations, extension of electricity to the enclave, and the installation of streetlights to enhance safety and night-time operations.
He added that the drilling and mechanisation of boreholes were ongoing, while a 20-seater water closet toilet facility was near completion.
Mr. Adzowu said the development of the Boete Industrial Enclave was strategically linked to the Assembly’s plan to redevelop the existing Boete Timber Market area into a modern 24-Hour Economy Initiative Market.
The proposed market, he noted, will feature a lorry terminal, lockable stores, market stalls, a mini clinic, police and fire service posts, banking facilities, and an early childhood education centre.
He explained that the 24-hour economy initiative, championed by President John Dramani Mahama, aims to boost productivity, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth through continuous operations supported by digital services and improved infrastructure.
The MCE stressed that the Assembly had engaged extensively with leadership of the affected associations and transport unions to ensure a smooth and consensual relocation process.
Following these engagements, he disclosed that all artisans were expected to relocate to the Boete Industrial Enclave by December 31, 2025, to allow construction works on the new market to begin early next year.
Mr. Adzowu reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to working with all stakeholders to ensure that the industrial enclave becomes a functional and sustainable hub that supports local enterprise and economic development in Obuasi East.
