Newmont Ghana Ltd and Bechem Traditional Council Break Ground for Borehole Construction

Bechem, (Ahafo) Dec. 10, – In a significant development for the Bechem community, Newmont Ghana Ltd, in collaboration with the Bechem Traditional Council and the Tano North Municipal Assembly has cut sod for the construction of two state-of-the-art mechanized boreholes in Bechem.   

The project, aimed at improving access to clean and reliable water, is expected to bring relief to households, students, and businesses in the area.  

The project is part of Newmont Ghana Ltd’s efforts to contribute to the development of the communities in which it operates. The company has a long history of supporting education, health, and water projects in the Ahafo Region.  

The boreholes will be constructed at Bechem Presbyterian SHS (PRESEC) and Adekyem area on the Breme road to enhance water system   

For years, residents in these areas have faced challenges with water supply, and the intervention is expected to bring tremendous relief to student and the public  

 Mr. Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, Tano South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) speaking at the ceremony expressed gratitude to Newmont Ghana Ltd and the Bechem Traditional Council for their partnership and commitment to the well-being of the Municipality saying, “The support reflects the true spirit of responsible corporate citizenship”.  

He added that measures were being put in place to provide potable water to other second-cycle schools in the area. ”  

We are committed to ensuring that our schools have access to clean and reliable water, which is essential for the health and well-being of our students,” he emphasized.  

The contractor for the project, Nana Kofi Appiah, promised to complete the project within four months.  

 “I will make sure that the project is completed on time and to the satisfaction of all stakeholders,” he said adding that it is expected to be completed in four months, after which the boreholes will be handed over to the community.  

Nana Serwaa Dwamena Adwoa-po II, the Queen mother of Bechem traditional council appreciated Newmont Ghana Ltd for their support and urged residents to support the project for the development of the area.   

“This project is a testament to the commitment of Newmont Ghana Ltd to the well-being of our community, and we are grateful for their support,” she said stressing that the  project is a significant milestone in the development of the Bechem community, and it is expected to have a lasting impact on the lives of the people in the area.  

The Bechem community has welcomed the project with enthusiasm, and residents are hopeful that it will bring an end to their water challenges. The project is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of the people in the area, improving their health, education, and economic well-being.  

The sod-cutting ceremony was attended by officials from Newmont Ghana Ltd, the Bechem Traditional Council, and the Tano South Municipal Assembly. Also in attendance were residents of the Bechem community to witness the event.
