Morocco Intensifies Coordinated Actions Under Royal Directives to Mitigate Winter Weather Impacts

Accra, Dec. 17, GNA – Pursuant to directives from His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Ministry of the Interior, in coordination with relevant government departments, services and institutions, has stepped up mobilisation efforts to address potential impacts of weather disturbances during the 2025–2026 winter season.

In line with the royal guidelines, Walis of the regions and provincial governors have been instructed to ensure close monitoring of weather conditions, strengthen coordination among stakeholders, and implement proactive measures to safeguard lives and property, according to a statement from the Interior Ministry.

As part of these efforts, a central control and watch centre has been activated at the ministry, while provincial monitoring committees have been set up under the national plan to mitigate the effects of cold waves during the current season.

The plan incorporates updated field data, expanded intervention scope and diversified tools to guide operations more effectively and enhance efficiency in affected areas. It targets vulnerable populations in villages across 28 prefectures and provinces, providing essential assistance to ease hardships caused by severe weather.

Measures include continuous on-the-ground support tailored to regional needs, regular supply of food, heating materials and other essentials, and the proactive deployment of logistical resources near roads at risk of blockage.

Authorities are also organising food aid distribution, supplying blankets and firewood, and ensuring rapid response for emergency cases, while maintaining road and communication links and providing fodder for livestock.

Reaffirming full mobilisation of public services in line with the High Instructions of King Mohammed VI, the Interior Ministry stressed its commitment to alleviating suffering, ensuring citizen safety and addressing challenges posed by winter conditions.

Citizens, particularly those in affected areas, are urged to remain vigilant, follow safety guidelines issued by competent authorities, and avoid risky travel routes to minimise danger and ensure public safety.
