Accra, Dec. 29, GNA – Maggi, a brand of Nestlé Ghana, in collaboration with allied partners marked Boxing Day with a colourful Waakye Festival that brought together food lovers, families, consumers and vendors in Accra.
The event, which took place at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park, dubbed the Waakye Festival, celebrated Ghana’s popular dish and highlighted the role of seasoning in enhancing taste and shared experiences during the festive season.
Mr Mark Okyere-Mensah, Category Manager for Culinary at Nestlé Ghana, said Nestlé stood for good food for a good life, especially during festive periods when food brought people together.
He said wherever people gathered to prepare and enjoy food, Nestlé sought to play an active role through its seasoning category, with Maggi leading the way.
Mr Okyere-Mensah said that was why Nestlé partnered the main organisers of the Waakye Summit to host the event, which marked its seventh edition.
He said lessons from previous editions had been applied to make this year’s festival bigger, more exciting and more engaging for patrons.
Mr Okyere-Mensah said the event attracted over 5,000 people, with expectations of connecting more than 1,000 consumers directly to the Maggi brand.
He said Maggi’s presence was important because waakye, enjoyed globally, derived much of its great taste from the sauces and stews prepared with Maggi.

Miss Magherita Amon, Brands Manager for Maggi at Nestlé Ghana, said Maggi was the special product that brought out the flavour in waakye stew and shito.
She said authentic waakye that tasted good required Maggi, stressing that without it, the desired flavour could not be achieved.
Miss Amon said cooking with Maggi ensured quality meals, adding that the festival was organised to celebrate both consumers and waakye vendors.
She said the platform also enabled consumers and vendors to meet, interact and share ideas, with top waakye vendors selected from various communities in Accra.
The festival featured dancing, games such as Oware and Ludu, awards, gifts, and play facilities for children, creating memorable family moments for patrons.
