Effia (W/R), Dec. 15, GNA – Mr Abdul Majeed Dokurgu, the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), says about 870 individuals are expected to benefit from the government’s flagship “Nkoko Nkitinkiti” programme in the municipality.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, Mr Dokurgu stated that the move would boost local poultry production and consumption, and help to reduce import bill on poultry products within the municipality.
He said as part of efforts to ensure the successful implementation of the programme, the Assembly would construct a 500-bird-per-hour processing centre to help meet the demand for poultry products within the municipality.
The processing centre, the MCE said, formed part of a broader GHS8 million investment plans by the Assembly into the agriculture sector to boost agro-processing within the area from next year.
Mr Dokurgu said: “We at Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly have embraced this Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative that is why we will make some investments and build a 500-bird-per-hour processing centre to ensure a successful implementation of the programme.”
He noted that these were all parts of strategic interventions to create jobs and ensure regular and additional income for the beneficiaries.
He said registrations and the necessary preparations have been done to receive the Nkoko Nkitinkiti from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for distribution.
Mr Dokurgu gave the assurance that the Assembly would ensure equitable distribution of the chicks’ ones received to guarantee the success of the programme.
