Accra, July 21, GNA – Members of Parliament on Tuesday paid glowing tributes to the late Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Mahama Abubakari II, for his enduring legacy of peace, stability and unity in the Dagbon Kingdom since his enskinment in 2019.
In a statement on the floor of Parliament, Mr Abdul-Fatawu Alhassan, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Yendi, praised the late King for his humility, wisdom and resilience, noting that his seven-year reign healed wounds and rebuilt unity after years of conflict and grief.
He described the reign as peaceful, embodying resilience, youth empowerment, and reconciliation.
Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the MP for Tamale South and Minister of Education, lauded the late Ya-Na for his patience and consultative leadership, which built consensus and ensured stability in Dagbon.
Mr Hassan Tampuli, the MP for Gushegu, also commended the King’s unifying leadership and his commitment to development and youth empowerment.
Earlier in the day, chiefs from the Dagbon Kingdom formally informed the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, of the demise of Ya-Na Mahama Abubakari II.
The late King ascended the throne in 2019 following the resolution of the protracted succession dispute between the Abudu and Andani royal gates.
His reign is widely credited with restoring peace and dignity to Dagbon, making him a symbol of reconciliation and unity.
