Hohoe (V/R), Nov. 24, GNA – Mr Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, Member of Parliament of Hohoe, says he is determined to recognise efforts of teachers in the Constituency annually to motivate and celebrate them.

He said teachers continued to shape destinies, build character and nurture the future of the constituency and the nation as a whole.

Mr Tsekpo speaking during the 2025 Best Teacher Awards in Hohoe to recognise about 27 teachers and education workers across various categories at the basic schools and second-cycle institutions, said teachers were nation builders and the backbone of society.

He said the MP’s Common Fund was being used transparently for the benefit of all constituents, adding that “for the first time, residents know how the fund is applied and it will continue to support community development projects”.

Mr Tsekpo said teachers in Wli Todzi would benefit from scholarships to pursue master’s degrees and added that the initiative aimed at motivating educators who were teaching in deprived areas and rewarding their dedication to shaping young minds.

He said to motivate all awardees for their dedication to teaching, awardees would also pursue master’s degrees under a scholarship scheme while he would be supporting future awards with a brand-new car for the overall best teacher.

Mr Tsekpo admonished teachers to renew their commitment to transforming schools and nurturing future leaders in the constituency.

He presented 100 streetlights to be fixed in all schools in need.

Mr Prosper Kumi, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), announced that a six-unit classroom block would be constructed at Fodome Abledze and a new school from Kindergarten to Junior High at By-Fire with funding from the Assembly’s share of the common fund.

He said the fund would also support a six-unit classroom storey building at Hohoe Methodist School and a six-unit classroom block at Wli Todzi.

Mr Kumi said six junior high schools across all the five traditional areas would be given smart classrooms, adding that the initiatives were investments aimed at improving learning conditions for pupils in the municipality.

Mr Victor Kwaku Kovey, Hohoe Municipal Director of Education, said the Awards involved a competitive selection process and only teachers who demonstrated exceptional commitment and performance would be chosen.

He said the last edition of awards of such nature took place in 2006, adding that the renewed recognition of teachers and education workers in the municipality would go a long way to enhance academic performances of the learners and students as a whole.

Madam Olivia Sallah, a Kindergarten teacher at St Teresa’s Demonstration Primary School, Hohoe was adjudged the overall best teacher.

She said her learners were her greatest motivation.

Awardees took home television sets, gas cylinders, burners and a double-door fridge.

The event was themed: “Elevating the Status of Teachers for Quality Education.”
