Ho, Nov. 14 GNA – The Reverend Dr Lawson Kwaku Dzanku, the Clerk of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) has called on the Church to use the gospel to eradicate all forms of darkness from the Ghanaian society.
“The darkness of galamsey that is destroying our environment and poisoning the water we drink and the food we eat should be eradicated,” he said.
Rev. Dr Dzanku stated this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of a wreath laying ceremony by the Church at the Missionary Cemetery in Ho.
A similar ceremony was also held at the Missionary Cemetery at Adaklu Waya in the Adaklu district.
The ceremony was to commemorate the Founders Day celebration of the EPCG.
The EPCG was birthed at Peki in the Volta region on 14th November 1847 because of Togbe Kwadzo Dei Tutu, the then King of Peki’s invitation through his son, Nyagamangu to Rev. Lorenz Wolf of the North German Missionary Society (Bremen Mission).
Rev. Dr Dzanku noted that other forms of darkness to be eradicated by the help of the Gospel were corruption in public and private places and the darkness of unnecessary chieftaincy issues that “brings setbacks to our society.”
“Let us allow the light of righteousness to shine on all fabrics of our societal lives,” he stated.
The Clerk said the Christian message should not be used to intimidate worshippers, it should rather be used to liberate people.
He said Christianity should also be used to promote peace in homes, families, communities and the country.
Rev. Dr. Dzanku called on members of the EPCG to remain steadfast and loyal to the leadership of the Church.
He said the EPCG would continue to keep the torch of the Gospel burning and urged members to be “the light of the world wherever they find themselves.”
The one-week celebration was launched in all congregations of the Church on Sunday November 9, 2025.
Other activities undertaken as part of the celebration were Bible study and prayer meetings, History night, symposiums, evangelism and mission outreach, community services and cultural exhibitions and music and drama.
The Founders week celebration would be rounded off with a thanksgiving and fundraising service and launch of Lorenz Wolf Van Fund on Sunday, November 16, 2025, in all congregations of the Church.
