Accra, Nov. 4, GNA – Standard Chartered Bank employees in Ghana have undertaken a beach clean-up exercise at Labadi Beach to address coastal waste pollution.
The initiative aimed to reduce rising levels of plastic, discarded nets, and other waste materials along Ghana’s shoreline.
In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency, the Bank said beaches are among Ghana’s most treasured natural assets and must be protected.
It noted that employees turned out to collect plastic waste and debris scattered along the beach.
The clean-up formed part of the Bank’s annual Employee Volunteering Week, which encourages staff to contribute to meaningful community causes beyond their regular duties.
“This exercise reflects Standard Chartered’s commitment to sustainability and its belief that every individual has a role to play in protecting the environment.
“By mobilising staff to support community initiatives such as this clean-up exercise, the Bank demonstrates that collective effort can make a real difference towards driving sustainability within our communities,” the statement said.
The Bank said that the activity also served as an awareness campaign.
“Many passersby and members of the local community who witnessed the exercise were encouraged to take greater responsibility for proper waste disposal and to contribute to keeping Ghana’s beaches clean,” it stated.
Standard Chartered said it continued to translate its global sustainability goals into local actions that protect ecosystems, promote social impact, and inspire behavioural change.
The statement, the beach clean-up adds to a series of efforts demonstrating that progress is achieved when corporate responsibility and individual action unite for the greater good.
