Tema, Nov. 12, GNA – Joshua Arthur, an ex-convict, has called on Ghanaian youth to be careful in their activities and avoid situations that can lead them to prison.
Arthur, who was imprisoned for 23 years at the age of 24 for a car theft, claimed he did not commit, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that his failure to produce a neighbour he bought a car from landed him in prison.
“Be careful. Don’t waste your life like I did. One small mistake can destroy your entire future,” he said.
He also advised the youth to take good care of yourselves, saying there were many young people in prison today because of women’s issues, especially defilement and rape, while others had been jailed for threatening of people, fights, and minor mistakes.
He reminded them that just one wrong decision could lead a person to being locked up for years and wasting the best part of their life.
Arthur indicated that he had seen firsthand what prison could do to the youth and therefore would not wish other youth to fall into that trap.
“There are many innocent youths there who have turned into homosexuals or fraudsters because of the things that go on inside. Internet fraud, homosexuality, and Tramadol use are destroying the lives of many boys in prison.”
Arthur advised the youth to listen to their parents, avoid shortcuts, and respect authority, sharing that he failed to listen to his father who told him to return the car, but he refused and that mistake cost him 23 years of his life.
