Gomoa Dawurampong  (C/R), Aug 27, GNA-Stakeholders of the Akyempim Community Bank PLC in the Gomoa West District have made a distress call on shareholders, corporate bodies, chiefs, queen mothers and well-to-do citizens in Gomoa Assin  and Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Areas to buy enough shares to recapitalise the Bank.

Mr Eric Fredrick Sackey, the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Bank, made the call when he briefed the media after a shareholders’ meeting at  Dawurampong  in the Gomoa West District of the Central region.

He urged political leaders and all citizens to invest heavily to help meet the Bank of Ghana’s (BOG) new monetary policy of GHC 5 million share capital for all Community Banks nationwide, before the end of December 31, 2026, to continue operations.

According to the Acting CEO, the Bank needed enough financial cushion to absorb the sudden financial demand and further protect depositors’ money, pay dividends, and grant loan   to its numerous customers including transport operators, and business owners to improve their   activities.

He pledged that the Bank would go ahead to render its corporate civic responsibilities to communities in its catchment area before expiration of the BOG deadline.

Mr Sackey said between 2012 and 2016, the Bank went through a huge liquidity challenge which demoralised majority of its customers and shareholders but gave the assurance that the current Board and Management was working hard to avoid liquidation and maintain confidence of depositors and customers.

Assistant Commission of Police (ACP) (RTD) Anthony Kobena Otoo, the Chairman of the Board of Directors said the Board and management had launched vigorous campaigns to mobilise enough shares immediately the BOG announced the new share capital requirement.

ACP Otoo said the Bank had reached out to many prominence personalities including Chiefs in the area to treat the BOG statement as a matter of urgency to purchase more shares to avoid a merger with another Community Bank.

Mr Arkurst Yamoah, the Administrator of the Central Regional Chapter of the Association of Community Banks, said the Akyempim Community Bank had a bright and relevant future, and urged shareholders and other citizens of the catchment area to make strenuous efforts to buy adequate shares to meet the deadline.
