Building construction inflation for September 2025 drops to 9.7 per cent — GSS

Accra, Nov. 15, GNA – Ghana’s Prime Building Cost Index shows that building construction inflation dropped to 9.7 per cent in September 2025, down from 12.0 per cent in August 2025. 

The figure represents the fifth straight month of decline, Dr Alhassan Iddrisu, the Government Statistician announced on Friday in Accra. 

He said overall prices of building inputs decreased by 0.4 per cent between August and September 2025. 

Month on month series show that there has been monthly decline in prices since June 2025. 

He said labour inflation fell to 15.1 per cent in September 2025, down from 15.7 per cent in August 2025. 

On month on month basis, Labour prices increased by 0.1 per cent between August and September 2025. 

The Government Statistician announced that the materials inflation eased to 8.4 per cent from 11.1 per cent in August 2025. 

Materials prices decreased by 0.5 per cent month on month. 

He said inflation for plant slowed to 8.2 per cent from 10.8 per cent in August 2025, while their prices decrease to 1.0 per cent month on month basis. 

At the sub-group level, he said steel recorded the highest inflation of 19.0 per cent, while reinforcement recorded the lowest inflation of -4.9 per cent. 

Based on the figure, Dr Iddrisu recommended to households to start or resume their projects while costs are stable and also build in phases to manage cash flow and hedge against future hikes. 

He recommended to businesses to secure medium-term contracts now before costs rebound due to the drop in the cost of building materials. 

To the government, Dr Iddrisu urged them to channel incentives into local material production and expand training for builders and artisans to tackle persistent labour inflation.
