Apremdo (WR), Nov. 11, GNA – The Ebiradze Royal family of Apremdo, the traditional council, indigenes of the area and well-wishers have paid their last respect to late Nana Afrah, mother of Apremdohene, Nana Egya Kwamina XI and Dr Mark Eghan of AFDB Abidjan/AIIB China.
The traditional funeral, interspersed with culture, traditions and beautiful displays saw many well-wishers and sympathisers travelling far and near to support the Chief and his elders to give the mother of the land a significant step towards the world beyond.
The funeral started on Tuesday the 4th of November and went through a series of Ahanta traditions and customs and ended on Sunday the 9th of November 2025.


Foreign dignitaries that commiserated with Apremdohene and the council on their lost were Dr Robert Fagans, Former Minister of Agriculture, Republic of Liberia, Dr Patrick Agboma, Executive Director, Africa Projects Development Centre, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Callistus Agbaam, World Bank, Washington DC, Mr Fomba Wai, African Development Bank, Sierra Leone.
The rest were; Mr Daniel Osei Boakye, Principal Procurement Officer, AfDB Senegal, Staff and Management from African Development Bank, Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire, Mr Oscar Anaanumba, United Nations International Fund for Agricultural Development and Mr Joseph Amoah, Ashanti Region Chairman, United Party Plus.
Nana Kobina Nketsia V Paramount Chief of Essikado Traditional Area and the President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs together with imminent chiefs; Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove Traditional Area and the Vice President of the Western Region House of chiefs were also present.
Others included Awulae Attibrukusu III Paramount chief of Lower Dixcove Traditional Area and the former vice president of the National House of chiefs, and Chiefs and queen’s mothers from the Western and Central regions of Ghana were also well represented.
From the political arena, the Western Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Nelson, Majeed Nassam Dokurgu MCE Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly, Lawyer Fiifi Buckman


MP for Kwesimintsim constituency, Mr Yaw Boamah MP for Effia, Dr Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah.
MP for Takoradi, Mr Joe Baidoo Ansah, former MP for Kwesimintsim constituency and the former Trade Minister and Mr Mireku Duker, former lands and Natural Resource Minister, were in attendance.
The late Obaapanyin Nana Afra, who lost her own mother at age six, was raised by her paternal uncle after the father also died in a car crash.
She stayed with her uncle at Tarkwa where she completed her middle school education and later relocated to Apremdo, her maternal linage as a royal.
Nana Afra’s love for education saw her establishing the first KG in Apremdo in 1975 where she singled handedly raised many human resources at the foundational stage for societal responsibilities.
The school expanded so rapidly that it caught the attention of the Ghana Education Service which adopted the school and made her the first pupil teacher on government payroll.
Her love for community work, saw her grooming many youth in the Apremdo community and beyond.
She retired from active service in 2007 and keenly supported many development initiatives engineered by Nana Egya Kwamina XI, his son and Chief of Apremdo to advance the course of the community.
Nana Afra can be remembered for her rich legacy, in women empowerment. Commitment to societal growth and investment in girls’ education.
She is succeeded by five children and many grandchildren.
