Afoko’s comeback is path to rebuilding NPP – Activist

Accra, Nov. 3, GNA – Mr. Daniel Twumasi Kankam, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist, has commended Mr. Paul Afoko’s decision to contest the position of National Chairman of the party.

He said Mr Afoko’s return to the NPP leadership race marked a significant step towards rebuilding unity and restoring the party’s founding principles.

In an opinion piece copied to the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Kankam described the move as an opportunity for renewal and reconnection with the party’s grassroots.

He urged members of the party to welcome Mr. Afoko back into the NPP fold, stating that his return represented “a moment of rebuilding, reconciliation, and rededication to the NPP’s core values.”

Mr. Kankam noted that the contest for the national chairmanship should not be viewed as a personal ambition but as part of a broader effort to “heal old wounds and strengthen the party’s democratic structures.”

“The task ahead is clear… We must rebuild the NPP brand, rebrand our identity, and restore trust among members at all levels of the party,”he said.

Mr Kankam called on party stakeholders to uphold inclusivity, transparency, and accountability in the upcoming internal elections, describing these principles as essential to the NPP’s continued growth and relevance.

He appealed to members to unite behind a leadership that prioritises service and collective progress.

“This is the time to rebuild, rebrand, and reclaim the party’s original mission,” he said.

Mr Paul Afoko, a former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was suspended in 2015.

His decision to contest again has drawn attention to internal cohesion efforts within the party.
