Hohoe (V/R), Oct. 15, GNA – A total of 500 pupils took the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have each received educational materials including ‘chop boxes’, bedsheets, pillows and student mattresses for their second-cycle education.

The beneficiaries of the ‘Education for All’ project are from private and public Junior High Schools who scored from aggregate six to aggregate 20.

Mr. Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, Hohoe Constituency Member of Parliament (MP), said education remained the most powerful tool that could be used to change society since it was the foundation upon which prosperous communities and strong nations were built.

He said the project was a transformative initiative aimed at expanding access to quality education and creating equal opportunities for every child in the Constituency and also a clear demonstration of unwavering commitment to invest in the future of young people and to support the hardworking teachers who shaped their minds.

Mr. Tsekpo said the project had five key components including the Hohoe Education Endowment Fund which was designed to support brilliant but needy students at all levels of education, ensuring that no child’s dream was cut short due to financial challenges.

He said there was also the SMART Lab Project component which was an initiative to equip schools with modern technology and learning tools to promote digital literacy and prepare students for the demands of the 21st century.

Mr. Tsekpo said the Internet for All Initiative would cater for the provision of reliable internet access to all schools across the Municipality to bridge the digital divide and connect students and teachers to limitless knowledge and opportunities.

He said there was a component of Teachers’ Awards and Motivation Programmes which would celebrate excellence in teaching and provide incentives to boost morale and performance because teachers were the backbone of the nation’s education system.

Mr. Tsekpo said there would be the Teachers’ Housing Project which aimed at addressing the accommodation challenges, particularly for teachers serving in hard-to-reach communities to motivate and retain qualified teachers where they were needed most.

He said in less than a year, over 200 students including PhD, Masters, Degree, and Diploma candidates had already benefited from three scholarship schemes, studying in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Law, Education, Governance and Business Administration.

Mr. Tsekpo said they were real investments in human capital which would yield long-term dividends for Constituency and the nation while expressing gratitude to all stakeholders to join hands to build a constituency where no child was left behind and where every student had the opportunity to achieve their highest potential.

Mr. Prosper Kumi, the Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), noted that the MP’s commitment to education in the Constituency was unmatched, adding that the Assembly would ensure that all plans towards development would be achieved.

He urged parents, teachers and all stakeholders to ensure that educational outcomes, especially academic performance, were high, adding that it was the expectation that the number of beneficiaries within the aggregate range would increase next year.

Mr. Victor Kovey, the Hohoe Municipal Director of Education, on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to the MP and added that the Directorate would work with all stakeholders to ensure that from 2026, BECE performances would improve to put the Municipality on a national radar in terms of academics.

He said the Directorate would initiate the Best Teachers’ Award in the Municipality to motivate teachers for quality teaching.

The three best performing BECE candidates also received full scholarships from the MP throughout their second-cycle education and to tertiary level.
