Accra, Oct 24, GNA – Nambian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has extended a message of condolences to President John Dramani Mahama and the Government and People of Ghana, following the passing of Ghana’s former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
The Namibian President said, she had learnt with deep sorrow about the passing of Ghana’s former First Lady Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings, who passed away on 23rd October, at the age of 76.
“On behalf of the People and the Government of the Republic of Namibia, I extend my heartfelt condolences to my dear brother, President John Dramani Mahama, the children, the entire bereaved family, and the people of the Republic of Ghana, on the loss of the former First Lady,” President Nandi-Ndaitwah said in a statement.
The former First Lady Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings was the wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.
In her message of condolences, President Nandi-Ndaitwah, eulogised Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings, for playing a prominent role in Ghanaian politics and social advocacy.
“She was recognised for her leadership in championing women’s rights and empowering communities in the country,” President Nandi-Ndaitwah said in her message.
The statement said during her reign, Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings, among others, established the 31st December Women’s Movement, an organisation that empowered Ghanaian women through entrepreneurship, education and participation in the political affairs of the country.
The former First Lady also advocated for the emancipation of women at every level of development to enable them to contribute to the socio-economic and political progress of the country.
The statement said Namibia stands in solidarity with the people and the Government of Ghana during this time of bereavement; adding that “we keep you all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
