Tema, Oct. 14, GNA – Combined Terminal Services (CTS), a logistics and port services company, has donated some personal protective equipment (PPE) to Mr Charles Amos, the Assemblyman for the Padmore electoral area, Tema Community One.
The donated items, which include helmets, Wellington boots, safety goggles, gloves, and other protective equipment, are to support the assemblyman’s ongoing community cleaning exercise.
Mr Ben Schreyer, the Managing Director of the CTS, presenting the items, said the gesture formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibility and its commitment to support local initiatives aimed at improving sanitation and public health within the Tema Metropolis.
Mr Schreyer commended the assemblyman for his dedication to maintaining a clean and healthy environment in his electoral area.
He noted that the assemblyman’s regular community cleaning exercises exemplify leadership and civic responsibility, explaining that the company’s decision to provide the safety gear was to encourage and protect the volunteers who participate in the periodic cleanup campaigns.
He further called on individuals, especially the youth, to support community-based environmental initiatives by regularly participating in cleaning, proper waste disposal, and environmental maintenance.
Receiving the items, Mr Amos expressed appreciation to Combined Terminal Services for the timely support and said the donation would go a long way in ensuring the safety of participants during cleanup activities.
Mr Amos noted that several clean up exercises had been organised in various parts of the community to clear drains, desilt gutters, and collect waste materials to make Tema shine again.
He explained that these activities had helped to improve sanitation and reduce health risks such as malaria and cholera and therefore called for continued collaboration between residents, businesses, and the local assembly to sustain the campaign.
He also appealed for additional support in the form of waste collection tools, logistics, and financial assistance to help organise more regular clean-ups and public health education programmes.
The Assemblyman further encouraged young people in the community to join the sanitation drive, noting that cleanliness promotes not only good health but also a sense of pride and belonging.
