Bolgatanga, Aug. 23, GNA – The Dr Kenneth Elvis Anewenah Foundation has supported orphanages, needy children and health facilities in the Upper East Region with food, educational materials and other essential items as part of efforts to improve their welfare.
The initiative formed part of the Foundation’s annual tradition of providing support to vulnerable people in commemoration of the late Dr Kenneth Elvis Anewenah’s birthday.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Foundation has continued the tradition of serving hot meals and helping needy and vulnerable people.
Mr Moses Bamidele Amao, Board Secretary of the Foundation, said the late Dr Anewenah used to spend his birthdays with the poor and needy, sharing hot meals and providing support based on their needs.
He said the Foundation and the family had decided to sustain the tradition, adding that the current initiative marked the second time the programme had been held in the Upper East Region.
He said in previous years, the Foundation had undertaken similar activities in Nima, Mamobi and other communities in Accra, where hot meals were provided to needy and vulnerable people.
Mr Amao said the Foundation had expanded its support this year beyond the provision of meals to include assistance to health facilities, prisons and children’s homes.
He said the Foundation provided medication for prisoners, baby cots for hospitals and exercise books for children in some orphanages.
“Our foundation is growing, and every year we are adding on to what we give out to the poor and the needy,” he said.
At Hope Children’s Place in Bongo, Ms Joyce Odeh, Managing Director of the home, expressed appreciation to the Foundation for its continued support, saying the gesture helped vulnerable children feel loved and cared for.
She said the Foundation’s visits in previous years had made a positive impact on both the children and staff of the home.
Ms Odeh appealed for continued partnership and support, saying the home was faced with several needs, including the renovation of its deteriorating structures.
She said the home needed roofing sheets and paint, as well as stationery and functional used laptops to support the establishment of a library for the children.
“We want to set up a library for them to boost their academic performance and get some kind of good future for the children as well,” she said.
At God’s Love Children’s Home, Ms Grace Yamba Tiapabayar, an orphan, expressed appreciation to the Foundation for its support and appealed for continued assistance.
She identified scholarships for needy but brilliant students, books, computers and other learning materials for a library, as well as support for the maintenance of the home, as some of the key areas requiring assistance.
She said support in those areas would contribute significantly to improving the education, wellbeing and prospects of the children.
