Keta (VR), Sept 12, GNA-Mr. Wisdom Klu Agbeko, the Assembly Member of the Vui-Tetekope Electoral Area in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, has been praised for his efforts in promoting communal labour in the community.
Residents believed that the efforts of the Assembly Member in promoting communal labour was essential for the progress and development of various communities.
Mr. Benjamin Awudza, a resident of Vui, a suburb of Keta in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said that communal labour has numerous benefits which include promoting social cohesion, encouraging active citizenship, and building trust among community members and others.
“We are very happy to have an Assembly Member who prioritises clean environment through communal labour which helped communities achieved more than individuals can alone, cleanliness they say is next to godliness,” he said.
He mentioned that through the efforts and the good initiatives of the Assembly Member, the communities were able to organise communal labour every two weeks which also foster a sense of unity and cooperation that was essential for building a stronger and resilient communities.
Mr. Awudza expressed satisfaction with how the youth in the area have also started patronising and endorsing various forms of communal labour and believed that the move would help inculcate the zeal of patriotism and voluntarism for community development.
“Under our young and energetic Assemblyman, the youths have developed the spirit of participating in communal labour which is a positive development, as it will help keep the streets hygienic and promote cleanliness.”
Madam Juliana Fafanyo told the GNA that community development should be a collective responsibility for all to address several pressing challenges and urged other stakeholders, such community leaders, religious leaders, and youth leaders, to support and share the same vision of Mr. Agbeko to enable promote communal labour among the youths in the areas.
She cited examples of successful projects undertaken through communal labour in the area such as the construction of footbridge at Vui Zion basic school, fixing of deplorable community roads, clearing of bushes, among others.
She charged other Assembly Members across the region to emulate the moves of the Vui-Tetekope Assembly Member to help keep the environment clean for healthy living and to promote development.
Meanwhile, Mr. Wusdom Klu Agbeko, the Assembly Member further appealed to all community members to embrace unity, togetherness, and champion tolerance for peaceful coexistence that were essential for building and improving the development of the communities.
He urged local authorities and stakeholders to support communal labour initiatives and provide resources and expertise that could help amplify the impact of their efforts and commended some youth groups who donated money and materials for the patching and construction of part of the damaged roads within the community.
The efforts of the Assembly Member were deemed to have served as a call to action for other communities to adopt similar approaches to achieve significant progress and improvements.
