Accra, Sept. 29, GNA – Ghana marked the World Tourism Day 2025 with a colourful and culturally rich celebration of the Some Tutuza in the Volta Region, under the global theme: “Tourism, and Sustainable Transformation.”
The national event spotlighted the transformative power of tourism and culture in promoting peace, unity, and economic development.
Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, led the national celebration at the Agbozume School Park, for the grand durbar, which brought together chiefs, government officials, and citizens from the Aflao, Some, and Klikor traditional areas.
She said, “Every visitor who enters Ghana through Aflao first experiences the warmth, hospitality, and cultural richness of our people. We must showcase our community as a place of opportunity, unity, and peace.”
The Minister emphasized the need to invest in cultural festivals as tools for national pride and community development.
Dr. Goosie Tannoh, Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development, representing the President, lauded the people of Some for preserving their cultural heritage and promoting peace through tradition.
“This festival is a living testimony to our ancestors’ generosity and our people’s courage to build a peaceful future,” Dr. Tannoh said.
Highlighting the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy Programme, he noted that the initiative would support the youth in creative arts, agro-processing, and cooperative ventures through improved infrastructure and innovation.
The Some Tutuza held under the theme: “Consolidating Peace and Unity for Social, Cultural, and Economic Development,” served as both a cultural celebration and strategic platform to advance Ghana’s tourism agenda.
The event fused traditional rites, performances, and dialogue to draw national and international attention to the Volta Region’s rich heritage.
Torgbuiga Adamah III, President of the Some Traditional Area, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Government, especially to President John Dramani Mahama, for his visionary leadership and continued support for the sustainable development of the region.
He extended his sincere appreciation to the sector minister for choosing the Volta Region as the host of this year’s World Tourism Day celebration, thereby bringing well-deserved national attention.
In recognition of their exemplary leadership and contributions, both President John Mahama and the Minister and Member of Parliament were honoured by the people of the Some Traditional Area.
The celebrations welcomed a lot of dignitaries, including the National Chairman of the ruling NDC party, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Directors of the Ministry, and Agency heads, and traditional rulers, alongside other distinguished personalities and government officials.
Some Tutuza, which commemorates the Some people’s historic migration from Keta, is a vital annual celebration that fosters cultural revival, community pride, and economic stimulation through cultural tourism.
By integrating World Tourism Day with the Some Tutuza stakeholders hope to amplify Ghana’s global cultural presence, strengthen cross-cultural exchange, and boost tourism-led development across the country.
