The remains of the two Muslim faithful who were part of last Wednesday’s helicopter crash have been laid to rest at the Military Cemetery at Tse Addo in Accra.

Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment Science and Technology, and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, were laid to rest in solemn ceremonies attended by political leaders, family members, and hundreds of mourners.

This was preceded by a short state ceremony at the forecourt of the State House, where a solemn Islamic Janaaza prayer led by Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam was held. The Janaaza prayer, a brief yet profound Islamic funeral rite performed in under five minutes, sought divine mercy and forgiveness for the departed souls.

President John Dramani Mahama, in his address urged the nation and families of the deceased to find solace in the Lord.“Today is not a day for talking, I just want to thank you for your sympathies. The Qu‘ran teaches that he who attends the funeral of a departed friend and waits till the final prayers will receive more blessings,” he said. The ceremony drew a cross-section of dignitaries, including government officials, Members of Parliament, party representatives, religious leaders, and hundreds of sympathizers who gathered to pay their last respects.
