Kunsu, Aug. 07, GNA – Mr. Abubakar Sedik, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West, has led a joint delegation to inspect a proposed site for a US$30 million Public-Private Partnership (PPP), project at Kunsu in the Ashanti Region.
The proposed project aims at improving healthcare delivery in the area.
The inspection brought together officials of the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly, financiers of the project, representatives of DODCARS LBG, Globe Engineering Limited, Kunsuhene Nana Dr. Agyemang Badu Duah I, his sub-chiefs and elders, as well as other key stakeholders.
The visit was aimed at assessing the suitability of the land ahead of the commencement of construction works.
The project is expected to transform Kunsu into a major hub for healthcare delivery and tertiary health education through the establishment of a modern nursing and midwifery training college.
The institution would serve as a degree-awarding campus of the Tepa Nursing and Midwifery Training College, while also facilitating the completion of the long-awaited Agenda 111 Hospital.
Speaking during the inspection, Dr. Gabriel Gbiel Benarkuu, the Chief Executive Officer of DODCARS LBG, explained that the project would be executed under an Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Financing, EPC+F, model through a public-private partnership among the DODCARS LBG, Globe Engineering Limited and the Ahafo Ano South -West District Assembly.
According to him, the purpose of the visit was to verify the feasibility of the project and assess the adequacy of the land earmarked for the development.
He expressed satisfaction with the size and location of the site, describing it as suitable for the proposed investment.
Dr. Benarkuu further disclosed that the Agenda 111 Hospital project at Kunsu had been incorporated into the overall development to ensure its completion alongside the proposed nursing and midwifery training college.
He explained that the integrated project would comprise an eight-unit, two-storey classroom block for the nursing and midwifery training college, a four-storey hostel with a capacity to accommodate 1,200 students, a five-storey residential apartment block consisting of 24 apartments for lecturers, health professionals, and other staff, an integrated solar power system to provide uninterrupted electricity to the entire facility, and the completion of the Agenda 111 Hospital.
He noted that the integrated development was intended to establish a modern healthcare and medical training hub capable of serving the district and surrounding communities.
Speaking to the media, Evans Kwadwo Afful, the Deputy Managing Director of Globe Engineering Limited, revealed that the total investment was estimated at US$30 million.
He assured the residents that the company possessed the financial capacity, technical expertise, and proven track record to successfully complete the project within 12 months after the commencement of construction.
Mr. Afful stated that Globe Engineering Limited was currently undertaking major infrastructure projects in Koforidua, Accra, Takoradi, and Sunyani.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure on schedule, while creating employment opportunities for local artisans, suppliers, and labourers throughout the construction period.
For his part, Mr Abubakar Sedik the DCE, described the project as one of the most significant investments expected to transform the district’s health and education sectors.
He disclosed that shortly after assuming office, he initiated discussions with the Chief Executive Officer of DODCARS LBG on the possibility of establishing a nursing and midwifery training college in the district to address the growing demand for healthcare professionals and expand access to tertiary education for young people.
According to Mr. Sedik, the proposed institution would operate as a degree-awarding campus of the Tepa Nursing and Midwifery Training College, thereby expanding access to professional nursing education, stimulating the local economy, and improving healthcare delivery across the district.
He assured the investors of the Assembly’s full commitment and support to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
Nana Dr. Agyemang Badu Duah I, the Kunsuhene, expressed profound appreciation to Globe Engineering Limited, DODCARS LBG, and the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly for bringing what he described as a transformational project to Kunsu.
He pledged the full support of the traditional authority and assured the developers that the project site would be adequately protected throughout the construction period.
He further promised that additional land would be made available whenever necessary to facilitate future expansion.
When completed, the US$30 million investment is expected to position the Ahafo Ano South West District as an emerging centre for healthcare delivery, medical education and socio-economic development.
The project is also expected to create employment opportunities, strengthen the local economy, and improve access to quality healthcare services for residents of the district and neighbouring communities.
