Dambai (O/R), Aug 07, GNA – The Krachi East Municipal Assembly is set to hand over a newly constructed Junior High School (JHS) block to the Kpelema School for Hope in the Oti Region.
The handing over forms part of efforts to improve access to quality education and provide safe learning environments for children in underserved communities.
The new facility, constructed by the Assembly, comprises a modern classroom block with multiple classrooms, offices and separate toilet facilities for students and staff.
The L-shaped structure, painted in the Assembly’s yellow and maroon colours and roofed with durable metal sheets, is expected to provide a more conducive environment for teaching and learning when officially handed over for use.
The project is particularly significant to the Kpelema community, where pupils and teachers have been relying on a weak and inadequate structure for teaching and learning, raising concerns about their safety and the quality of the educational environment.
The completion of the new block is therefore expected to address some of the infrastructure challenges confronting the school and create a safer and more comfortable environment for both learners and teachers.
Mr Safo Nketia, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Krachi East, said the project formed part of the Assembly’s commitment to expanding educational infrastructure and ensuring that children in deprived and underserved communities had access to decent school facilities.
He said the Assembly considered education a critical component of community development and would continue to support interventions that improved the conditions under which children received education.
Mr Nketia said the provision of the JHS block would help reduce classroom congestion, improve teaching and learning, and potentially enhance academic performance among pupils.
He added that a safe and attractive school environment could also encourage parents to keep their children in school and reduce absenteeism and school dropouts.
The MCE explained that the intervention was also intended to complement the efforts of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in providing quality basic education and improving learning outcomes in the municipality.
He said the Assembly would continue to identify communities with critical educational infrastructure needs and explore ways of addressing them within available resources.
The Assembly is expected to officially hand over the completed facility to the school authorities and the Ghana Education Service for use.
Residents of Kpelema have welcomed the completion of the project, describing it as a major relief to parents, teachers and pupils who had expressed concerns about the condition of the previous structure.
Some community members said the new facility would not only improve the physical learning environment but also serve as a motivation for children to attend school regularly and pursue their education with greater confidence.
The Krachi East Municipal Assembly reiterated its commitment to investing in education, healthcare and other essential social infrastructure to improve living conditions, promote human development and support the socio-economic advancement of communities within the municipality.
The Assembly said such investments were necessary to create opportunities for children and young people and contribute to the broader national development agenda.
