Sunyani, (Bono), July 15, GNA – The K B Media Foundation, a Sunyani-based charity organization, has released twin-brothers who were serving their sentences from the Sunyani Central Prisons, after paying their court-imposed fines of GHC5,000.
Desmond Owusu and Derrick Owusu, aged 20 years, and Senior High School students, were convicted for stealing and theft related offences and each of them were supposed to spend nine months in jail.
Touched by their plight, the Foundation, which works to provide hope for the hopeless and improve the welfare of the vulnerable in society offered to pay the fines for their release.
They were subsequently discharged on Monday, July 14, 2025.
The twins assured the Foundation of going back home to live decent and well-meaningful lives, as they could not hide their joy after their release from prison.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Mr Kingsley Blessing, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation said: “We paid the GHC5,000 fine last week and are happy about the subsequent discharge of the inmates.
“We are also grateful to the Deputy Superintendent of Prisons (DSP) Kutun Korga, the Prison’s Reception Officer who facilitated the processes for their release too,” he stated, saying, “by their release we are also achieving our mission of providing hope for the hopeless.”
In a related development, the Foundation has paid the medical bills of GHC10,000 covering five patients at Sunyani Teaching Hospital for their discharge.
The facility had earlier detained the recovered patients who were unable to pay their medical bills, Mr Blessing told the GNA, promising to do more to enhance the socio-economic livelihoods and welfare of the vulnerable in society.
One of the beneficiaries, Comfort Pomaa, whose medical bills amounted to GHC2,900, expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the Foundation for the support.
Another beneficiary, Alice Bagna who also owed the facility GHC1,200, told the GNA that she was over-joyed because it was difficult for her family to raise funds to pay the medical bills for her discharge from the hospital.
