Accra, July 3, GNA – Ghanaian club Asante Kotoko have extended their condolences to the family of Liverpool striker Diogo Jota, who died on Thursday, June 3, 2025.
The 28-year-old Portuguese forward died in a car accident in Zamora, Spain just two weeks after he married his childhood girlfriend.
The highly rated forward was travelling in a Lamborghini truck together with younger brother Andre, 26, a fellow professional footballer who also died in the crash in the early hours of this morning.
Asante Kotoko, in a social media post, said: “We at Asante Kotoko extend our deepest condolences to the families of Diogo Jota and his brother AndrĂ© Silva and to everyone at Liverpool FC during this heartbreaking time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May their souls rest in peace.”
Liverpool FC have also mourned the passing of their striker, saying that they were devastated by the tragedy and that Diogo’s family, friends and fans had suffered an ‘unimaginable loss’.
Jota was married to Rute Cardoso, the 28-year-old mother of his three children.
