Washington, Sept 22. (dpa/GNA) – Flights were resuming at airports across the north-eastern US on Monday evening, after a damaged telecommunications line was repaired, US Transport Secretary Sean Duffy said.
“It will take some time to clear all existing delays, so please check with your airline for the latest information,” Duffy said on X.
An Amtrak construction crew had earlier accidentally cut a fibre-optic cable in New Jersey, causing an outage that prompted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to impose ground stops at several airports across the region.
The disruption also attracted attention because, numerous diplomats and world leaders are expected in New York this week for the UN General Assembly.
A ground stop was initially imposed on flights heading to Newark airport in New Jersey on Monday morning because of an equipment outage, according to the FAA.
Restrictions were later imposed at other airports, including LaGuardia and JFK in New York, Logan International Airport in Boston and Philadelphia International Airport.
