Hamburg, Sept 22. (dpa/GNA) – A 3-year-old boy died after being run over by a van in a supermarket car park, in north-east Germany, police said.
The accident happened in the town of Güstrow near Rostock on Monday. The boy was walking with his mother along the edge of the roadway, when he moved into the road and went under the side of the vehicle, according to police.
Police said the 44-year-old driver was unable to avoid the accident. Despite immediate attempts to save him, the child died in hospital later that afternoon.
Police have opened an investigation into the driver on suspicion of negligent homicide.
An expert will now examine the exact cause of the accident.
