Agona Nyakrom Launches 2025 Akwambo Festival

Nyakrom (C/R) July 6, GNA – The Chiefs and people of Agona Nyakrom, the paramount seat of Agonaman, have launched the 2025 Akwambo festival with a call on citizens home and abroad to contribute to the development of the town. 

Addressing the gathering, the Tufuhene of Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, Oteatuoso Osei Bonsu III, said the 2025 Festival would be exceptional due to many innovative programmes to help raise enough funds to complete projects at the health centre.    

The Tufuhene, who is also  chairman of the 2025 Planning Committee, said  the annual celebration was not just merry making , but to reflect and assess the past and current situation and make amends to develop the town.  

Nana Osei Bonsu appealed to the citizens to pay their annual contributions so that  the planning Committee would finish the construction of a  female and male wards at Nyakrom Healthcare centre. 

The activities for the week-long celebration are a clean-up exercise on Saturday,  August 2, Health walk with Omanhene and others,  parade of Dentse Asafo  Company,  Tuafo Asafo Company and Akonfode Asafo Company and Captains Marathon. 

Others are donation of items by Nkabom club,  inter-schools quiz competition,  Inter-community soccer matches and cooking competition (local dishes). 

Orange street carnival, parading of Omahene and his chiefs though Nyakrom streets to durbar grounds to climax the festival on, Wednesday, August 9.        

Nana Osei Bonsu said the festival was rebranded with the attendance of  renowned hiplife Artistes  to entertain the people on Sunday after the inter- denominational church service at Vitoria park. 

 The Chairman called on petty traders, churches and Civil Society Organisations to also pay their annual fees to enhance the beauty of the festival. 

He called on the government to give back the powers vested in chiefs to sanction or take punitive measures against recalcitrant citizens. 

The Tufuhene said some youth were disrespecting the chiefs due to a Supreme Court ruling that denied them  the power to punish and appealed to the government to take steps to restore it. 

Mr Kwesi  Adoko Blankson, retired Banker and  co- chairman of the Planning Committee, reiterated calls on the youth to respect the elderly in the society.   

He  called on the chiefs at Nyakrom not to sell land at exorbitant prices so that citizens in the diaspora and at home could afford to put up buildings to enable them visit home regularly. 

Mr Adoko Blankson appealed to the people to pay their Akwambo festival contributions to support the construction works at the Health Centre, adding that government alone could not provide the needed infrastructure to ensure quality healthcare delivery.
