Accra, July 13, GNA – Ghana has named a 40-athlete squad across nine sports for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, as preparations enter their final phase ahead of the July 23-August 2, 2026, event.
The Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) of Ghana, in a statement released on Monday said that athletes were selected based on performance, commitment and a rigorous qualification process.
Athletics makes up the largest contingent with 13 competitors, including sprinters Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, Isaac Botsio, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Deborah Acheampong and Anita Afrifa.
The track and field team also features high jumper Rose Yeboah, 800 metres runner Abigail Abugire and 400 metres hurdler Baba Seidu Mammoudu.
Ghana’s para-athletics team includes Zinabu Issah, Hayford Addai and Raphael Nkegbe Botsyo.
Boxing accounts for the second-largest group, with 10 athletes selected.
The squad includes Nancy Bamfo, Ramatu Quaye, Adelaide Djabatey, Daniel Plange, Ebenezer Ankrah, Abdul Wahib Omar, Desmond Pappoe, Precious Akai Nettey, Amadu Mohammed and Jibril Muntari.
Ghana would also compete in track cycling, judo, para powerlifting, para swimming, swimming and weightlifting.
The cycling team consists of Erica Sedzro and Emmanuel Sackey, while Frema Agyei and Elizabeth Oduro would represent the country in judo.
Tahiru Haruna has been selected in para powerlifting and Promise Aheto in para swimming.
The swimming team comprises Nubia Adjei, Unilez Takyi, Abeku Jackson and Ivan Snowden, while Yayra Akos Agozi, Abdul Salim Adjetey Adjei, Emmanuel Amo Boateng and Forrster Christopher Osei will compete in weightlifting.
The CGA said the athletes would receive enhanced technical, sports science and high-performance support as part of their final preparations, aimed at improving Ghana’s chances of winning medals in Glasgow.
The association also urged Ghanaians at home and abroad to support Team Ghana as it seeks to add to the country’s Commonwealth Games record.
