Nanton (N/R), May 21, GNA – Dr Mohammed Sheriff Abdul Haliq, Member of Parliament (MP) for Nanton Constituency in the Northern Region has donated some essential medical equipment to the Nanton District Health Directorate.
They included adult and baby weighing scales, delivery beds, radiant warmers, hospital beds, emergency resuscitation trolleys, examination lamps, and digital thermometers.
They are expected to improve health care services in the constituency, enhance working conditions for health professionals, and contribute to higher productivity and economic development of the area.
Dr Haliq, speaking during the handing over of the equipment to the Directorate at Nanton, said the gesture formed part of his commitment to improving health care delivery in the constituency and supporting the government’s broader agenda to strengthen health care system.
He said it also aligned with the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) manifesto and President John Mahama’s belief that “Health is wealth.”
He said, “As a government that prioritises the wellbeing of its citizens, the Mahama administration has uncapped the National Health Insurance Levy to ensure consistent funding for the health sector. This bold move aims to make health care accessible to all Ghanaians.”

Dr Haliq announced plans to collaborate with the Nanton District Assembly to upgrade selected health centres to clinic status to enable them to manage more complex medical cases reducing the need for patients to travel to other towns for treatment.
He reaffirmed his commitment to his constituents saying, “I can assure you that the next four years will witness significant investment in the health sector in Nanton. We are committed to changing lives and bringing health care closer to our people.”
Dr Sheba Kunfah, Nanton District Director of Health, who received the items, expressed gratitude to the MP for the gesture.
She assured him that the equipment would be used effectively to improve health care delivery in the area.
She said the Directorate currently had only seven functional motorbikes for outreach services and appealed to the MP and other stakeholders for support to strengthen health care delivery, especially for remote communities.
