EP Church urges unity, truth and love in electing new Moderator

Ho, Aug. 14, GNA – Right Rev. Dr Lt. Col. Bliss Kofi Agbeko (Rtd), Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG), has urged delegates to uphold unity, truth, love and prayer as they elect a new leader for the Church.

He made the call in his address at the 12th General Assembly of the Church in Ho on Thursday, held under the theme: “Cleanliness is Next to Godliness! Keep Clean.”

Rt. Rev. Dr Agbeko said although the Assembly had important matters on its agenda, the spirit in which delegates discussed and resolved them was equally important to the future of the Church.

He called on members to seek God’s guidance and discern His will as they prepared to elect a new Moderator to lead the affairs of the EPCG.

“Let us debate without fighting or division, decide without delay and depart without bitterness,” he charged, urging delegates to put the interest of the Church above personal considerations.

The Moderator further encouraged members to speak the truth with love, listen carefully before responding and pray before casting their votes.

“Speak truth, but with and in love; listen before you answer; pray before you vote,” he said, reminding delegates that their decisions would have implications beyond the Assembly.

He said members were custodians of the Church as an institution and stewards of the Gospel and, therefore, had a responsibility to conduct themselves in a manner that reflected Christian values.

Rt. Rev. Dr Agbeko urged the delegates to leave the Assembly with a clear understanding of the decisions taken and a renewed commitment to strengthening the EPCG, while seeking God’s presence and guidance throughout the deliberations.
