22-year-old armed robber receives 10-year imprisonment with hard labour

Kumasi, Aug. 14, GNA – Christian Owusu, a 22-year-old armed robber, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for robbery in the Ashanti Region. 

A statement issued by the Ghana Police Service in Kumasi on Friday, August 14, 2026, said Owusu was convicted and sentenced in connection with a robbery incident reported on July 21, 2026. 

The victim recounted to police that, at approximately 12:21hrs on July 21, 2026, while en route to Konkromase township, in the Kwadaso Municipality, she was threatened and robbed of her handbag, which contained personal belongings and cash. 

Police investigations subsequently led to the arrest of Christian Owusu on August 04, 2026. 

He was subsequently arraigned before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on August 07, 2026, where he was charged with robbery. 

The statement further indicated that Owusu pleaded guilty to the charge and was consequently convicted on his own plea. 

“Before the sentence was pronounced, Christian Owusu appealed to the court for clemency.  

The court, however, took his plea into consideration and sentenced him to a minimum term of ten (10) years’ imprisonment with hard labour,” the statement elaborated. 

Following the sentencing, Owusu was transferred to the custody of the Kumasi Central Prisons authorities to commence his sentence.
