Drobo, (Bono), May 05, GNA – Madam Siata Watara, the Jaman South Municipal Chief Executive in the Bono Region, has advised food vendors to keep their surroundings clean to prevent food contamination.
She also asked them to avoid littering and dumping refuse indiscriminately, saying that could lead to food contamination, poisoning or trigger the outbreak of communicable diseases.
Madam Watara gave the advice when she addressed food vendors at the Drobo main lorry station after a clean-up exercise, organised by the Jaman South Municipal Assembly.
She explained that the clean-up was in line with the re-introduction of the National Sanitation Day (NSD) and stressed her commitment to improve sanitation in the municipality.
Madam Watara said the Assembly collaborated with Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a waste management and sanitation firm, to organise the clean-up exercise, assuring that the exercise had come to stay and urged the people to always participate, to keep the area clean.

“Environmental cleanliness is our responsibility,” she stated, urging the people to also promote personal hygiene.
The participants cleared choked gutters, picked plastic waste and containers and swept the lorry station during the exercise.
