Assembly member appeals for Dam Construction in Tengvielli

Tengvielli, (UWR), May 17, GNA – Mr Dramani Moro, the Assemblyman for the Tengvielli electoral area, has appealed to the Sissala East Municipal Assembly to consider construction a dam in the area as many boreholes are failing to provide sufficient water for community consumption.

He said most women often walk several kilometers to fetch water for bathing and other domestic uses and that the nine boreholes in the electoral area were unable to meet the community’s water needs.

According to him, the problem forces some women to travel up to 15 kilometers to Kassana and Kanzion in Burkina Faso to get water.

Mr Dramani Moro spoke with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Tengvielli during a borehole drilling ceremony for the Fulani settlement at the Tengvielli, by a church, which pleaded anonymity.

He said another significant issue in the electoral area was the low water table, which concerns had been raised with the Municipal Engineer, but no immediate solution had been offered.

He said the Tengvielli electoral area was the largest within the Sissala East Municipality, comprising nine communities but only four of them had access to electricity.

The remaining six, including Katinia, Tanla, and Kunsola, have struggled with inadequate lighting for years.

Mr Moro also promised to lobby non-governmental organizations to install more hand pump boreholes for the residents, like the support currently being provided by the Church to the Fulbe community in Tengvielli.

Mr Iddrisu Amadu, the Fulani chief from Pieng, expressed gratitude for the support to the Fulbe community in Sissala East.

He assured that a water user committee would be established to manage the new borehole.
