Kumasi, May 31, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Centre for National Culture (CNC), in collaboration with the Bongo Development Queen (Bongo Tlinmalego Pognaba) and other partners, has officially launched this year’s Dansika Fugue Batakari Exhibition and Festival in Kumasi.
The event serves as a platform for cultural revival, economic empowerment, the preservation of tradition, and community development.
The theme for this year’s festival is “Harnessing Authentic Northern Ghanaian Handicrafts and Bringing the Culture to Your Doorstep.”
The festival aims to showcase the dynamism of Ghanaian culture by integrating northern and southern traditions, promoting cultural exchange, and creating market opportunities for the Dansika Fugue Batakari.
Key activities lined up include a Royal Durbar, traditional performances, authentic northern arts and crafts exhibitions, and the Eat Ghana – Northern Foodfest, which highlights the rich culinary heritage of northern Ghana.
Mr. Peter Marfo, Director of the CNC, speaking at the ceremony, said that integrating the cultures of northern and southern Ghana would not only foster national unity but also spotlight the country’s unique cultural identity.
He noted that the initiative would open up markets for local weavers and artisans, creating significant economic opportunities for them.
Additionally, it would strengthen the cultural significance of Batakari designs, reinforcing their identity and heritage.
Madam Helene Adonkolgo, Development Queen of Bongo, added that the exhibition and festival would provide greater visibility for artisans, allowing them to expand their craft and reach broader audiences.
She highlighted the festival’s role in celebrating the past while shaping the future through creativity and innovation.
She further encouraged the youth to draw inspiration from the event and explore weaving and other crafts as sustainable means of improving their livelihoods.
