Accra, Feb.6, GNA – Ghanaian club heavyweights, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak say they are working on a detailed position document that will include proposals to elevate Ghana football.
The recent death of staunch Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, aka Pooley, has sparked debate in the sporting media environment about the need to maintain safety at match venues.
Following a meeting on Wednesday, Kotoko and Hearts issued a joint statement emphasising the necessity for increased security at various match venues to secure and protect the lives of all parties.
“The two esteemed teams have underscored their unified dedication to tackling the pressing concern of security at match venues throughout the league.
“This announcement comes ahead of their engagement with the Executive Committee of the GFA on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
“According to the clubs, the tragic and unfortunate incident involving the loss of Nana Pooley, a die-hard Kotoko fan, is a poignant reminder of the paramount importance of ensuring the safety of all football fans.
“Both Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko are resolute in their belief that such incidents must be prevented in the future,” the statement said.
The Phobian family also expressed their condolences to the Kotoko family for their loss and assured them that the death of Nana Pooley would not be in vain.
“Hearts of Oak and Kotoko are urging the adoption of enhanced security protocols and other measures and are eager to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders, including the government, GFA, law enforcement agencies, and dedicated supporters.
“The clubs earnestly call upon the GFA to take prompt and decisive action on the recommendations outlined in their position paper,” the statement ended.
