Accra, Jan. 22, GNA – The European Union (EU) and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Ghana have launched a Youth Sounding Board (YSB) in Ghana to empower young people in decision making.

This would grant them the opportunity to contribute valuable insights to guide EU and Netherlands programmes and policies for Ghanaian youth.

Also, they would collaborate with the EU and the Netherland Embassy, development partners, and peer groups to address key issues as they participate in transformative processes.

The YSB is a global European initiative aligned with the EU’s commitment to youth empowerment.

The YSB in Ghana will be a cohort of young people between the ages of 18 and 32 who will be selected based on their application for membership, after meeting the eligibility criteria, including being a Ghanaian, proficiency in the English language and in basic digital skills.

Mr Irchad Razaaly, EU Ambassador to Ghana, said the YSB members would connect with the EU and the Netherlands Embassy, advise on policies from a youth perspective, advocate for inclusive development, and engage local and international stakeholders.

He stressed that the participants would have the chance to share their perspectives, collaborate on innovative solutions, and influence the policies that will shape the future of their nation.

Mr Razaaly said this was a unique opportunity for young leaders to inspire change and make a significant impact by joining the Youth Sounding Board Ghana.

He said by actively engaging the younger generation, they aimed to tackle pressing issues relevant to the youth in Ghana, particularly, issues on economic development, education reforms, and social equity.

“This initiative demonstrates Team Europe’s commitment to enhancing youth
participation in fostering inclusive, innovative, and sustainable development solutions,” he added.

Meanwhile, applications for membership are opened from January 21, 2025 to February 20, 2025.

The selection committee would employ inclusivity in the selection process.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate active community engagement and leadership skills.

The evaluation process would prioritise those who show commitment to driving positive change and the ability to collaborate with others.
