Adutor (V/R), June 23, GNA – Flood victims in the Adutor Electoral Area in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region, are appealing for urgent humanitarian assistance following the destruction of homes, properties and displacement of several residents.
The victims, many of whom are currently seeking refuge with relatives and neighbours, are calling on the government, private sector, non-governmental organisations and benevolent individuals, to support them with relief items to enable them to rebuild their lives.
Mr Agbanyo, the Assembly member of the community, said the floods, triggered by heavy rains in recent days, had caused widespread devastation in the area, leaving many households stranded and vulnerable.
“The situation is heartbreaking as several families have lost their belongings and have been displaced by the floods; therefore, we are appealing to government agencies, philanthropists and all well-meaning Ghanaians to come to our aid in these difficult times,” he said.
Mr Agbanyo also appealed to non-affected residents within and outside these communities to extend a helping hand to victims, by providing temporary accommodation to those displaced.
“If you have a spare room, a veranda or any safe space that can accommodate flood victims, please open your doors to support them during this difficult period. This is the time for us to show love and solidarity to one another,” he stated.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and strictly observe safety precautions as the rainy season intensified, stressing the need for community members to look out for one another, especially children, the aged and other vulnerable persons.
“Let us continue to check on our neighbours, support one another and ensure that our children and the elderly are protected from harm,” he advised.
The flooding at Adutor is the latest in a series of flood-related incidents recorded in parts of the country following recent torrential rains, renewing concerns over the adequacy of drainage systems and the need for improved climate resilience and disaster preparedness in flood-prone communities.
Residents have, therefore, called for immediate relief interventions as well as long-term measures to address the recurring flooding challenge and safeguard lives and property.
