Dambai (O/R) Dec 13, GNA – The Jasikan Diocesan Youth Council (JADYC), has strongly condemned the violent attacks on Catholic Priests from Kpassa at Nkwanta South in the Oti Region.

In a press release signed by JADYC Secretary, Mr. Solomon Kumah said the attack on their members was unacceptable and deserved swift condemnation from all quarters.

The statement said, Catholic Church had always been a beacon of peace, love and compassion and it was disturbing to see its clergy were being targeted as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) carrying the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP) after losing the 2024 election.

JADYC called on the authorities to take immediate action to bring the perpetrators to book and ensure the safety and security of all citizens, particularly the clergy.

The statement also urged all parties involved to exercise restraint and allow the law to take its course, as previously advocated by the National Peace Council in Ghana.

In addition, it appealed to the public to remain calm and not take the law into their own hands.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire Catholic community in Ghana, may God bring healing, comfort and peace to all those affected,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, a Police release has indicated commencement of investigations into the assault on the Catholic Missionaries Priests on December 11.

The Inspector General of Police Dr George Akuffo Dampare has spoken with the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, Most Reverend Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi and assured him of Police investigations and called for their support to unravel the crime.
