Wenchi, (Bono), Oct. 23, GNA-Madam Joan Agyakum Nsowaa, the Programmes Officer at the Ghana Commission Office of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has urged the media to endeavour to verify their facts, before going to press.

UNESCO is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that promotes international cooperation in education, science, culture, communication, and information to build world peace.

Mad Nsowaa said the role of the media in fighting misinformation/disinformation and malformation remained unparalleled, asking practitioners to leverage fact checking tools to publish authentic stories.

She gave the advice when speaking at a media training workshop at Wenchi in the Bono Region, jointly organised by the Osagyefo Ampem Foundation and the UNESCO Ghana Commission Office.

The Osagyefo Ampem Foundation is also a non-profit organization founded by Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoapong Tabrako III, the Paramount Chief of the Wenchi Traditional Area to drive local development.

Attended by journalists, bloggers, content creators and social media influencers and handlers, the training focused on empowering the media practitioners to detect fake news, verifying information and thereby promote responsible digital communication.

Mad Nsowa encouraged the media to use verification resources like, the facts check Ghana, and Dubawa facts check and to cross-check images, videos and digital contents.

Describing the training as insightful, some of the participants thanked the organisers, and hoped that the training would be organised periodically to abreast them with evolving digital trends.

Certificates of participation were presented to the participants.
