Kadjebi (O/R), Oct. 06, GNA – A 15-hour power outage recorded in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region at the weekend and into midday Monday disrupted economic activities and affected the livelihoods of residents and businesses.
The outage started at about 2200 hours on Sunday, October 04, and power was restored at about 1300 hours on Monday, October 05.
It affected households, shops, food vendors, salons, barbering shops, dressmaking businesses, and other commercial activities.
Some residents told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the prolonged outage resulted in the loss of business hours, spoilage of food and inconvenience, particularly to businesses that depended heavily on electricity.
Mr Gabriel Nyatuame, a cold-store operator, said the outage affected his business as he was unable to properly preserve frozen foods and other perishable products.
He said prolonged power outages without prior notice could result in financial losses to businesses.
Ms Lawrencia Nyarko, a seamstress, said the outage disrupted her work schedule and delayed the completion of clothes for her customers.
She said she had to suspend sewing until power was restored, affecting her ability to meet agreed deadlines.
Mr Samuel Agyemang, a barber, said the outage brought his business to a standstill because his clippers and other equipment depended on electricity.
He said customers who visited the shop had to return home or seek services elsewhere, resulting in a loss of income.
The residents appealed to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to take steps to minimise prolonged power interruptions and provide timely information to consumers when outages occurred.
They said reliable electricity supply was essential to sustaining businesses, protecting livelihoods, and promoting economic activities in the district.
