Sunyani (Bono), Oct. 6, GNA – The Local Government Staff Association of Physical Planners (LoGSAPP) has called on the government to provide affordable housing to enable everyone to access decent and dignified homes.
“Planning inclusive community is building a future for all, and every plan must make room for dignity of the people,” a statement issued by the Association to mark the 2026 World Habitat Day (WHD), said.
Held on the theme: “Adequate Housing for All,” the WHD provides an opportunity to reflect on the state of towns and cities and the basic right of all citizens to adequate shelter, the statement said.
A copy of the statement, signed by Mrs Gifty Nyarko, National President of LoGSAPP, and made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, called on President John Mahama to expedite action on the completion of the various affordable housing projects in the country.
“A city’s true greatness is measured by the dignity of its people and must therefore be planned boldly, prioritize inclusive building and ensure that everyone has a safer home,” it said.
The statement stressed the need for citizens to collaborate with the government in the implementation of housing projects by adhering to zoning and land-use policies and regulations that facilitated the development of affordable homes.
It said adequate housing had a significant impact on other aspects of people’s lives, including education, health and safety, and contributed to stronger families and resilience to climate shocks.
The statement called on the government and other stakeholders to take concrete steps towards providing adequate and affordable housing in line with the New Urban Agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including protecting tenants from forced eviction.
