Nkawie (Ash) Sept. 30, GNA – Public Basic Schools in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality are under locks and keys because of the continued strike action by teachers.
The nationwide strike action embarked by the three pre-tertiary teacher unions in the country, is biting hard on both pupils and parents in communities, as the school children are roaming aimlessly, while parents and guardians seem not to understand the issues which have triggered the strike action.
A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to some schools at Nkawie and Toase on Wednesday morning depicted a total locked up of the classrooms and absence of both teachers and learners, making the atmosphere on the campus unusually silent.
The schools were Toase M/A Basic “A” and “B”, Nkawie Experimental Basic A” and “B”, Saint Justin’s Basic “A” and “B” as well as Kufour M/A Basic “A” and “B” schools.
The story was not different at the Afari Presby and Sepaase D/A Basic Schools.
Mr. Amos Owusu, the Atwima District Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that, the teachers had been instructed to remain absent from duty till they received their demands and that was exactly the story.
He said that the strike action was having a negative impact on learners, parents and communities and stressed the need for the government to take urgent actions to resolve the issues.
