Fiapre (Bono), Oct. 23, GNA – Mr James Clarke Hayford, the Registrar in-charge of the Dean of Students Office, University of Energy and Natural Resources, anticipates that between 4,000 and 5,000 first year students will benefit from the “No-Fees-Stress” initiative in the 2026/2027 academic calendar.
The “No-Fees-Stress” initiative is a flagship educational intervention of the government, which covers or reimburses academic fees for qualified first-year students in public tertiary institutions in the country.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the university’s main campus at Fiapre, near Sunyani, Mr Hayford said the institution would hold its matriculation somewhere December this year.
“Until then we can’t get the actual figures, however, we anticipate that at least between 4,000 and 5,000 freshers will benefit from the initiative,” he stated.
Mr Hayford said this time the government had decided to pay the academic fees directly to the institutions, instead of the students, saying that universities would then reimburse back to the students.
In separate interviews, some of the fresh students told the GNA that they had successfully completed the registration processes and expressed the hope that they would benefit from the policy and commended the government for the support.
“The process is very easy and convenient to go through,” Miss Iren Abigail, one of the freshers stated.
Another student, only known as Anabel also indicated that the registration process was simple, and prayed that she would also benefit from the initiative.
