Ocansekorpey, Sept. 26, GNA – Residents of Ocansekorpey in the Ada East District have resisted attempts to remove road construction equipment from the area, demanding clarity on the status of the Ada-Foah–Totope Road project.
The residents said they were concerned about the proposed removal of the equipment more than three months after the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of about 10 kilometres of the road, with little visible progress on the project.
The sod-cutting ceremony, held on June 15, 2026, was organised by Madam Comfort Doyoe, Member of Parliament for Ada, and Mr Kenneth Kofi Kanor, District Chief Executive for Ada East.
Reputation Limited was expected to undertake the project, raising residents’ expectations that construction would commence.
However, the residents told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that they were surprised when two lowbed trailers arrived in the area to transport the construction equipment away.
They said the trailer operators told them that the MP and DCE were aware of the equipment’s removal, prompting them to resist and demand an explanation.
The residents called on the authorities to clarify the current status of the project and explain why the equipment was being removed when, according to them, construction had yet to make significant progress.
They described the poor condition of the road as a major concern for the community, saying they would resist further attempts to remove the equipment unless they received clear assurances that work on the project would proceed.
Mr Eric Otumfour, Assembly Member for the Ocansekorpey Electoral Area, told the GNA that he was not aware of the movement of the equipment.
He therefore directed the residents to resist any attempt to remove the machines and said he would consult the DCE and the MP to clarify the circumstances surrounding their movement.
He said he would subsequently provide the community with information on the way forward.
