Accra, Oct. 24, GNA – Dr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, former Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for unity and tolerance among candidates as the party elects constituency executives.
In a goodwill message shared with the Ghana News Agency on Saturday, he urged aspirants to approach the exercise with maturity, humility and deep sense of responsibility.
Dr Ofosu-Ampofo said the elections should strengthen grassroots structures, deepen internal democracy, and help build a more vibrant, united and formidable NDC.
“Campaign passionately, but respectfully. Compete with conviction, but never lose sight of the bonds of comradeship that unite us,” he said.
“Let our conduct reflect the democratic ideals, values and principles upon which our great party was founded,” he said.
Dr Ofosu-Ampofo, Political Advisor to the Vice President, urged elected executives to lead with humility, inclusiveness and a commitment to serve all members of the party, adding that individual ambitions should not undermine the collective interest of the party.
“To those who may not secure victory, remember that an electoral outcome does not diminish your worth, your contribution or your place in our party…
“At the end of the day, the NDC must remain supreme, our unity must be preserved, and democracy must emerge as the ultimate victor. No individual ambition or contest for office should undermine the greater cause we all serve,” he added.
He emphasised transparent electoral processes and advised candidates to compete responsibly.
“Let us demonstrate that healthy competition and party unity can coexist, and that our differences in the pursuit of leadership can become a source of strength rather than division,” Dr Ofosu-Ampofo said.
“May the process strengthen our party, inspire confidence among our members and position the NDC for greater growth, vibrancy and future success.”
About 15,000 aspirants are contesting for positions in the constituency executive elections in 276 constituencies across the country.
The election forms part of the party’s internal reorganisation ahead of election 2028.
