Kadjebi (O/R), Oct. 24, GNA – The Akan Constituency Executive Elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been delayed due to the late arrival of delegates at the voting centre in Kadjebi in the Oti Region.
Voting, scheduled to begin at 0700 hours, had not commenced as of 0812 hours, as the 1,070 delegates expected to participate in the elections had yet to arrive at the centre.
Mr Emmanuel Klu, the Akan NDC Director of Elections, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that vehicles had been dispatched to the various electoral areas to convey delegates to the voting centre.
He, however, said he could not immediately explain the delay in their arrival.
Mr Klu assured the GNA that voting would commence as soon as the delegates arrived at the centre.
A total of 63 aspirants are contesting 24 executive positions to lead the party in the constituency for the next four years.
Officials of the Electoral Commission (EC), led by Mr Christian Bokode, are supervising the electoral process.
A police personnel led by Chief Supt. Frank Nana Asomaning, Kadjebi District Police Commander is at the venue to provide security.
The elections are expected to determine the new constituency executive team responsible for coordinating the party’s activities and organisational structures in the Akan Constituency over the next four years.
