Amasaman, (Accra), Sept. 5, GN A -The Women’s Wing of the Islamic Mission Secretariat (IMS) has opened its 28th Annual National Women’s Conference at Amasaman in Ga West Municipality of Greater Accra.
The four-day conference, according to Hajia Marima Suleiman Nketia, the National Secretary of the Wing, would highlight the contributions of Islamic principles and ethical values as well as women empowerment.
It is on the theme: “Preserving Islamic values as women in the contemporary world towards national development”.
Hajia Nketia explained that the event would deliberate on how Islamic principles could provide an ethical foundation for women to participate meaningfully in the nation’s economic, social and political development.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the opening session of the conference, she said activities lined up include quiz, Islamic Daa’wa, Tahajjud and Quranic recitation.
Other activities include free health screening exercise, health education, sporting activities, including indoor games, cooking competition and employable skills training.
Hajia Nketia said that some Muslim women and girls would be taken through liquid soap and detergent making, and also be mentored to recognize their full potential.
In a separate interview, Umi Meimuna Abban, the National Coordinator of the Wing said the further sought to inculcate into Muslim girls a sense of patriotism, nurtured and guided by Islamic values and teachings.
She said that would empower them to live responsibility, saying that: “We are striving to build and shape Muslim women who will contribute to national development through entrepreneurship”.
Umi Abban stressed that the conference would also highlight potential in the agriculture and agribusiness technology sector and to encourage Muslim women to engage in agribusinesses for their livelihoods.
