Accra, Sept. 27, GNA – Ghana’s Black Stars return to home soil on Tuesday with a point to prove, as they face The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium in a crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
Coach Carlos Queiroz’s men suffered a setback against Côte d’Ivoire’s Elephants on Thursday and would now need to snatch all three points from The Gambia’s Scorpions to keep their qualifying campaign on track.
The Gambia, meanwhile, would enter the second round of matches aware of the importance of securing points in Group C after beating Somalia in the opener.
Coach Queiroz has emphasised the need to focus on the players available to him, especially with injuries and other availability issues forcing changes to his original plans.
His current squad combines experienced players with emerging talents, giving him different options ahead of Tuesday’s game.
The Portuguese coach is expected to demand a more purposeful display from his players, particularly in attack, after Ghana failed to score in the defeat to Côte d’Ivoire.
Playing before the home crowd could provide the Black Stars with the needed boost as they seek to put their opening-day setback behind them.
Ghana would also be expected to improve its efficiency in front of goal, with the team needing to convert its opportunities to avoid another disappointing result.
The Scorpions, on the other hand, would approach the game with confidence after their opening victory and would be keen to build on that result.
The encounter is expected to be a competitive West African affair, with both sides looking to strengthen their position in Group C.
For Ghana, victory would provide an important lift and put the team in a stronger position as the qualifiers progress.
