Bolgatanga, Sept. 08, GNA – Fifty-four apprentices of the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA), Bolgatanga Central Zone One, have taken their final Trade Test Examination after completing their apprenticeship training in tailoring and dressmaking.
The candidates, made up of 11 males and 43 females, were examined under the supervision of officials from the Standards, Trade Testing and Certification Department of the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI).
The examination was to assess the knowledge and practical skills the apprentices had gained during their training and determine their readiness for professional certification.
The Trade Test covered both practical and written components, allowing the candidates to demonstrate their understanding and ability in the tailoring and dressmaking profession.
Addressing the candidates, Mr Shaibu Karim, the Chairman of the GNTDA, Bolgatanga Central Zone One, congratulated them on reaching the final stage of their training.
He encouraged them to remain committed to the profession and make good use of the skills they had acquired rather than abandoning the trade for other occupations.
Mr Karim said with patience, hard work and creativity, the profession could provide them with a regular source of income and help them become self-reliant.
He urged them to continue learning and improving their skills so they could meet the changing demands of their customers.
Ms Rebecca Asirah, the Zonal Coordinator, appealed to non-governmental organisations, individuals and other benevolent organisations to support the apprentices as they prepared to establish themselves.
She said some of the apprentices came from less privileged homes and might struggle to acquire sewing machines and other equipment required to start their own businesses.
Ms Asirah therefore appealed for support in the form of sewing machines, workshop spaces and other working tools to enable the apprentices to begin their careers successfully.
She said providing such assistance would give the young people the opportunity to practise their skills, improve their creativity and become productive members of society.
